TELECOM-STRUCTURE / The Government reorganizes the telecom authority

Bucharest (MEDIA EXPRES) / March 24, 2009 / The former President of the IT&C General Inspectorate (IGCTI), Catalin Marinescu (45), was appointed by the Romanian Government as President of the ANARC (National Authority for the Administration and Regulation of Communications).

From the launching of the telecom institution, in September 2002, no ANARC President managed to carry out its five year mandate. Each time, the changes were made in the same way, by reorganizing and changing the name of the institution.

The institution, with the current name, ANARC, was launched last week, after the former institution, ANC (the Romanian National Authority for Communications), was abolished.

The new regulatory body will function under Parliamentary control, its management having been suggested by the Government and named by the President of Romania.

ANC absorbed the IT&C General Inspectorate (IGCTI) in 2007, leaving its President at the time, Marinescu, with no position whatsoever. Liviu Nistoran, 40, the current ANC President, declared that he would return in the private sector where he owned an IT company.

Before being President of the IGCTI, Marinescu worked for 11 years with Romtelecom, Romania’s major fix telephony operator. (AC)
